About Giant Walls

Intro

So just how does you define space? For a Trekkie, it is the final frontier. For an irritated girlfriend, it’s what exists in between her forgetful man’s ears.

While for him, it’s the one thing he wishes he got from her.

We, though, have our own definition of space. Like music is defined by its stage, for us space is defined by its walls. And sometimes, by their absence.

Now before you wonder why we’re waxing eloquent about music, lovers, TV shows etc, allow us to explain. As you will discover, our newest company is called Giant Walls.

As you might expect, here’s why. As products of the Doordarshan era in Indian television, Giant Robot came flying to us when we were looking to name our design studio.

And now that we’re expanding into designing spaces, carrying forward Giant Robot’s hard-earned equity and growing legacy makes perfect sense. Hence, Giant Walls.

Philosophy

Giant Walls has been created with a singular raison d’etre – to redefine how we perceive our spaces and thus, how we treat them.

We are committed to delivering complete spatial design for any premise, be it a home, an office, a hospital, a store, or a restaurant. And whatever the space, we create end-to-end solutions our own special way – with a fearlessness of design, an innovation of mediums and a customization to your needs.

For all of us at Giant Walls, walls represent a beginning, not an end. A starting point for our ideas to take shape, we go on to visualise how the entire space defined by those walls should look.

And then a potent combination of graphic designers, illustrators, art directors and interior designers brings it to life with innovative designs and execution, delivering the completed, final installation. And creating a space that not just speaks for itself, but communicates too.

Team Giants

Giant Walls is the brainchild of Yadnee and Rahul Gaikwad, the couple who started Giant Robot in 2007.

Yadnee and Rahul met at the prestigious JJ School of Art in Mumbai and a common passion for visual expression formed the bedrock of their relationship.

Between them, they have two decades of work experience at some of India’s biggest studios and gaming companies.

Hailing from humble backgrounds, their grounding in Indian sensibilities and training in Western techniques empowers them with a unique style that clients immediately appreciate. At Giants Walls, the Gaikwads are joined a team of the best art directors and interior designers, each one of who shares their vision and commitment towards redefining our approach to our spaces.

Ramayana Redux

JJ Institute of Apllied Art recently completed 75 successful years. And true to the spirit of the innovation that drives them, the Gaikwads’ decided to do a somewhat unusual tribute to their much loved alma mater.

Yadnee and Rahul conceptualised and spearheaded a movement to pay tribute to the Institute. In their own special style, of course.

Their theme was the Ramayana. But not only did they conceptualise a whole new visual style to it, but they also cleverly co-related important stages in the epic to stages in a student’s life at the Institute. Created in collaboration with 25 other artistes, this nearly 200 foot long mural ended up being covered in most of the prominent national dailies of Mumbai.
